Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: What if the place at which I'm volunteering requires a background check? What if there is a fee to complete this background check? What about other fees associated with my volunteerism?
A: The company will not reimburse team members for background checks, or any other fees associated with volunteering (i.e.travel expenses, certifications, etc.). It is a personal decision you are making upon selecting to work with that charity.
Q: I need to do training for my selected charitable organization before I can volunteer. Does that qualify as part of my volunteer service?
A: The spirit of this program is to spend company time actively giving back to our communities. Since the specific service organization and volunteer activity are the choice of each team member, the company expects team members to receive training during their personal time.
Q: Do I have to spend the full eight hours or four hours (depending on whether you are full time or part time) at one time or can I break up the time and spread it out over more than one visit or project per quarter?
A: We understand that you are not in control of the times an organization allots for volunteerism. Any special requests would be considered on a case-by-case basis and would be at your supervisor’s discretion only. For purposes of eligible time for Preventative Care services, your time can be used for more than one visit and spread out over more than one quarter. A minimum of 1 hour per submission is expected.
Q: Do Project Good Samaritan hours contribute to overtime?
A: PGS hours count towards overtime eligibility. If you took 8 PGS hours on Monday and worked overtime later in the week, you would receive overtime pay for any hours worked over 40 hours. Conversely, you cannot take additional PGS hours in a work week for the purpose of being paid overtime.
Q: Do Project Good Samaritan hours submitted on the day before a company Holiday considered for the purpose of "worked day before"/"day after" to qualify to receive Holiday Pay?
A: Yes, the team member would qualify for holiday pay as long the team member has received approval from your manager to use the day before towards Project Good Samaritan.
Q: What if my volunteer shift or preventive care visit is during a time I am not scheduled to work?
A: That is great if you have already been able to find time when you are not working to volunteer or have your preventive care visit. For eligibility under this program, the eligible volunteer or preventative care services must be during your normal scheduled work shift.
