Very nice park, it was clean and well maintained. Staff was friendly and courteous. We stayed for a month and saw a lot of maintenance work being done in the park. Had some nice beach weather and some cold weather, but to be expected in December.
They have let the park facilities and infrastructure deteriorate. The maintenance in the restrooms is non-existent, many toilets are not bolted to the floor and are unstable, valves don't work properly and there are switchplates missing on the outlets. They try tto keep them cleam but could use updating. Sites are levelbut roads are terribly potholed.
This park is in a great location, too bad they have let the park facilities and infrastructure deteriorate to such a poor condition. The maintenance in the restrooms is atrocious, many toilets are not bolted to the floor and are unstable, valves don't work properly and you have to endure second hand smoke. The roads have potholes and sinkholes. The concrete pads are cracked and too small for a patio. The snowbirds who stay here year after year are wonderful and friendly which is about the... Read More

We were welcomed by the staff in the office that were very friendly and helpful getting us in and setup. As several reviewers have stated yes the trees are kind of sparse but the sites are roomy enough and have level concrete pads. We didn't comment on the bath houses because we didn't use them so I cant say one way or the other, but the pool looked nice and was very much in use while we were there. Overall I was well pleased with the grounds and staff and would definitely stay again.
This is the second time we have stayed at Island Retreat Campground. The first time was for 2 1/2 weeks in January 2016. We stayed the whole month of February 2017 and plan to return for at least the month of February 2018. The sites are pretty level and each site has a concrete pad to park your RV on. The building are showing some age but they are constantly trying to keep them in good repair. The campground is in a location that is only a few minutes from shopping and dining facilities. The campground is in a location that is only a few minutes from shopping and dining facilities. The beach is about 5-7 minutes and very easy to get to.
The biggest appeal for us is the people in this park. The staff is very helpful and friendly but the other RVers are absolutely wonderful and friendly. You WILL make some very close friends while staying at this campground.
There are lots of events that go on during the week at the "clubhouse" including games, cards, exercise and one of our favorites the Jam Sessions that were held on a couple of Thursday evenings. Get there early for the events because they fill up FAST!
Call to make sure you can get a reservation because this is a very popular park

Very quiet and terrific location near shopping, restaurants and beaches. Good elbow room between each site
Pretty nice park, pet friendly, good site pads and roads. Sites were fairly large. Our first site had no shade and the heat was fierce, but the management had no problem with moving us to a shaded site. Long-term residents were on the back rows. Laundry needed a bit of TLC. Employees patrolled the park regularly and were helpful, and management was accomodating. We'd stay there again.
We stay here often all during the year. The staff is so nice, and it is a very neighborly atmosphere. It's only a couple of miles to the public beach (An easy ride if you have bikes.) The pool is small but nice. The park is very friendly to pets and is conveniently located to walking trails. It seems like almost everyone brings their dogs. We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Gulf Shores.
