This is one of the best choices for staying in Whistler. The facility itself is quite large, and accommodates a wide variety of campers. That being said, it leads to some confusion, as it's sort of spread out. Also, some of the group camping area attracts a bit more rowdy crowd. Our stay was also disrupted by repeated buzzing of motorized scooters and mini-bikes, many operated by unsupervised young children. The park advertises free wi-fi, but at check-in we were told it really only works best at the park office. Once the office closes at 10 PM, there is still a sizable number of folks "camped out" on the porch with their laptops, phones, tablets, etc. During our stay we discovered that there was an unplugged unknown device wired into our campsite power hookup. When we plugged it in, we then got wi-fi in our rig. I think it may have been a pole-mounted repeater or something.
We did not eat in the on-site cafe, though it looked tasty. We used the laundry facilities, which were clean and working well, but they closed at 10 PM. For park this busy the machines were always full, and later hours would be a help to campers who may be busy with other activities during daylight hours. Also beware, tent campers use the laundry room sink to clean their dishes and cooking pots. They are apt to be using the same tables for cleaning their pots and pans that you want to use to fold your clean clothes.
In general the park is very clean. There are abundant warnings about bears and other wildlife, and secure containers are provided for trash and recyclables. The staff takes this seriously, which is a good thing. During our stay there was daily sighting of bears nearby.
There is a wide network of trails for hiking/biking/walking/running that can be accessed from within the Resort Property. It's an easy short walk/ride to other attractions, or into Whistler Village itself, along a well-maintained trail.
Riverside offered us a free shuttle van to Whistler Village, which was quite handy, and operated by friendly, helpful staff. The last ride home departed at 8 PM, which made it hard to go for a later dinner or movie in the Village, though taxis are available.
We were there during the horrible fire season this year, so all outdoor burning, even candles was prohibited. We heard that the week before we visited the smoke was so thick it was like a fog on the roads. This is beautiful country, but it requires rain to keep it so, and this year has been bad.
We will stay at Riverside again, and recommend it. Hopefully the wi-fi can be made more reliable.
