Because snow was bearing down on us as we headed for our last campground, we decided to skip our one night stay and drive directly here from Spearfish SD. It was windy and tough driving, not to mention the grass fire we had to drive through. Because snow was bearing down on us as we headed for our last campground, we decided to skip our one night stay and drive directly here from Spearfish SD. It was windy and tough driving, not to mention the grass fire we had to drive through. The owner of Lazy Acres was happy to take us a day early and also called back to make sure we were going to make it as the hours grew later. When we finally got there in freezing temps, he greeted us with a mask on and double checked that we still wanted to stay for the 2 weeks we'd booked. We said yes and he took us to our RV site. It was a great way to start. The snow arrived that night and froze us for the first four days, but then the sun came out and the fall foliage glowed brightly. Many different birds hopped around and we even observed an eagle and an osprey. The Encampment River runs at the edge of the property, and benches are set up to sit by it and enjoy it. With a valid license, you can fish. Riverside is a small town (52) and its next-door neighbor, Grand Encampment, is not much bigger. But there are many great drives to take to explore this neck of the woods. People are friendly. At least two good restaurants are nearby, although you need to go to Saratoga (36 miles round trip) to get groceries. Lazy Acres is rustic, quiet, and dark at night. Other campers were respectful and friendly. We loved our site (25). The showers and laundry are clean and adequate. It's not a high-end, full of activities park, but a very pleasant place to call home for a while. We will return when we can ... although hopefully not in a snowstorm!
