What a big improvement since I've stayed here three years ago. Yes, it is old style camping, but the streets are fixed, the people are very friendly, the snowbirds and fishermen are a great community. The waterlevel is pretty high and fishing is good. The canal is open, so all boats can go in and out or you can sit and fish from the docks. McIntosh is a very beautiful town with very old trees (you have to love them). And very safe!
The roads are filled with potholes and large trees and the place is not well kept. Actually did not stay long because was concerned about safety from the area. The water lot was over grown with weeds so you could not even see the small canal. Not at all what is advertised or as picture shows. Would not recommend!
Great location if you need to visit Gainesville. The campground is near the water after you pass through a very cute historical town with gorgeous oak trees. I definitely will stay here ever time we need to visit our daughters in Gainesville or attend a football game. The owner took over two years ago and is very nice. It took us 20 minutes to get to Gainesville on 441 and the drive was scenic and easy. We also went hiking in Paynes Praie State Park a short 8 minute drive.
Sportsman's Cove is a nice little Campground at the Lake Orange in Old Florida under old oak trees. You can feel the sprit of the history of McIntosh with it's old houses, antique shops and artists. We used the boat ramp at the campground to explore the lake with its wildlife. It's a perfect fishing spot. The Campground-Crew is very helpful and friendly. We will come back in October for the 1890festival!
