Southern Oregon RV Park Good Sam Verified Campground

MEDFORD: This is a great stop for a night or several days while visiting southern Oregon. We usually stop at another park in the Medford area but they have gone to all full time "campers" and did not have space, so we tried this newer county park close to the county fairgrounds. It is all paved and very park-like and spacious. Pretty quiet but still close to the freeway. We will make this our regular stop now and hope to stay longer.

We stayed here when in the area as there aren’t many options in the area. This area was in desperate need of a new park, but due to the design layout and development of this park it fell far short of filling the need. The rating continues to decline with each visit. Previous drop due to reservation policy - there was a FEE FOR ANY RESERVATION. This time the cause is a change in stay limits. The park recently eliminated the stay limit (previously 14 days in a 30 day period) due to the recent wildfires (September, 2020) in the area. With the recovery efforts for the fires, trailers were installed (secured to the ground with hard sewer connections & large propane tanks) for extended stays (FEMA ?). Other trailers show signs of extended stays as well. With extended stays, there is accumulation of person property on the sites. The park is visible and a short drive from I-5 (Exit 33) along a secondary street. The problems begin upon entering the park. The office is past the entrance & several rows of campsites with registration parking on either side of the office which could result in extra passes thru the park to reach your site and exit. The interior roads & parking pads are paved. The roads & turns are sufficient to maneuver larger RV’s but there are tire tracks in the grassy areas along the sites and signs warning to stay on the pavement. The sites are a mixture of back-ins and P/T’s. The P/T sites were long enough to say connected to a toad unless you want to connect to utilities & don’t have long cords/hoses. Sites had sufficient room for opening slides but there will be some vegetation encroachment. The majority of the parking pads face East so no shade created by RV’s on the patio side & possibly extra passes thru the park to reach your site and exit. This park doesn’t seem to understand the simple concept of the importance of a flat, level parking pad as the majority of the park was built on a slope & there was no effort made to level or tier the parking pads so a lot of the pads have a bi-directional slope. They have full hook ups – water, electricity (50/30/20 AMP), & sewer. The utility connections were towards the rear of the sites. The sewer connection fitting was above ground & in a large majority of the sites on the uphill side making it difficult to establish a downhill flow depending on the discharge point. Distance and grassy areas establish privacy between the sites. All sites have an outside table & fire pits. The landscaping is starting to age but nothing high enough to interfere with satellite reception. No cable. The park information didn’t mention anything about OTA channels. Didn’t try to get any channels but probably would only get 4 to 5 channels. The park provided WiFi was extremely fast when occupancy was low. It was not password protected. Our Verizon WiFi hotspot worked well. Reception for the NET10 phone was good. There was one designated fenced pet area with a decomposed granite surface located in a corner of the park. There were bag dispensers and collection stations for waste in the fenced pet area. There was sufficient area to walk dogs along the park’s roads and if the pedestrian gates get open a walking trail around the pond. On a previous stay, saw a community corrections work crew maintaining the landscaping. TIP: Most of the premium sites are closest to the interstate but surprisingly quiet. Reservation fee: $8/online & $10/phone (or in person). Laundry: 2 washers & dryers - cost was $2.00 for washers & $1.50 for dryers. But couldn’t extend drying time a quarter at a time (in 2018).

Nice friendly staff. Sites are long and level but the septic is a bit of a chore to connect to since it's clear at the rear of the site and uphill from the level pad. Laundry is small for the size of the park. This is a new park and is very appealing.

I was pleasantly surprised at how good the facilities are here, being so close to the freeway I-5. The road noise is not bad at all and the park is beautifully clean and well landscaped. WiFi is excellent at our site H03 and probably throughout the park. Walking trails are well kept and clean and there is a small dog park. Small lakes are stocked with fish. Also surprisingly scenic with views of the mountains all around. Sites are paved and very level. Very good value for money.
