Friendly and helpful staff, clean facilities, level spots. great place to stop.
Just stopped for the night on our road trip from Texas to Minnesota. What a beautiful property. Nice, shady dog park, and staff was very accommodating. We'd recommend this place for all types of rv's.
There is not much nice to say about this park. You awake to loud gunfire from a nearby range around 8am. There were no trees in our section of the park. There is very little grass and a lot of gravel everywhere which makes things dusty. The site requires prepayment before you check in. The water pressure is very low - we had to use our pump continuously. Our microwave did not work well - I suspect low voltage. The internet service was inadequate and bumps you off intermittently. The Good Sam ratings are wrong!

We were able to go swimming in the pool, set up our patio (awning and camp chairs) and enjoy a fire in the firepit. Had visits with family in the area, went shopping, and just finally able to really relax. Wish we’d had more days here will definitely stay here again. (The 4 stars for the restroom was because the pool restroom is a little rustic, the first stall didn't lock, but the second one I tried did, and it did have toilet paper and it flushed, so not all the way to 5 stars, but adequate, so I give it 4 stars.)

Excellent service! The check-in is very efficient. They fill propane tanks and provide pickup and drop-off at your site. There are many long-term residents. The park is quiet and well maintained.
Un accommodating staff. Dump station is 15 degree slope, the wrong way, so no full dump. Most sites need gravel help. And the best feature, It backs up to a gun range. You get to listen to that. Sun up to sun down. Don't waste a stay here.
The campground is not well kept, the laundry and bathrooms, which they should be ashamed of were filthy and old. The laundry room was bug infested, no place to sit down even outside because they never swept the front porch, which had chairs, but the bugs and spiders were thick. When someone would come in to the spot next to us, we lost all over the air television. And on top of that our slides would almost touch. ALSO THE EQUIPMENT THAT WAS RUNNING ALL DAY SO THEY CAN ADD MORE CAMPSITES WAS VERY ANNOYING. THE MANAGER OR OWNER DOESN'T KNOW WHAT CUSTOMER SERVICE IS!! Worst and loudest park we've been to in the last 6 months. Also they put the dump station in an area that unless you have a 12ft camper you couldn't get to it! Not well thought out and won't make the mistake of going there again.

I Missed the other review about the gun range. It is a jolt to have the quiet broken by the rapid fire of the range. Anyone that doesn't like the gunfire noise or anyone with animals that don't like the loud noise should probably steer clear! Other than the gunfire, the park was nice and quiet. As stated in other reviews, the roads and sites are gravel with grass alongside. A lot of the sites were not level and required work to level the units.
My husband and I, and our two dogs went camping here in late October and had a good experience. We were tent camping and had a very large site with plenty of space for us, our dogs, and our car and didn't feel too close to the people next to us. The restroom facilities were good enough for what we needed. Check in process was easy, and everyone was friendly. We were able to buy wood and anything else we needed. peace and quiet at this beautiful setting was TOTALLY destroyed by gunfire! Yes, gunfire! it seems there is an outdoor gun range so close we could hear the bullets hit the trees near us. the office comment when we left with our partial refund was "most people dont mind". right! all day 7 days a week.
2nd visit, 1 year apart. One night stay on our way west. Generally nice grounds, however in need of some general upkeep. Quiet. Bathrooms and showers NOT a 10,- 5 at most. Dirty, in need of repairs. Gross, wont stay there again.
I take my 32' Super-C motorhome to Des Moines regularly to visit family. You'd never know that you are in a metro area. The site was beautiful and shady with full hookups. The guests were quiet and considerate. Facilities were clean and well maintained. The management treated us like family, and even arranged for me to be able to leave my motorhome for several hours past check-out time. I've read a number of complaints here about hearing noise from the New Pioneer Gun Glub in Waukee in the park. They are a shotgun-only trap and skeet club and their facility is over a quarter mile to the north of the park, and they shoot in the opposite direction from the park. The noise is just NOT an issue, NOR does the Pioneer Gun Club present ANY kind of safety issue at the park. I've stayed in a LOT of parks in the past 40 years of travel, and this ranks up there as is one of the nicest, best maintained parks I've had the pleasure of staying in. We will become regular guests of Timberline Campground in the future.

This place is great! Visiting from Ca. This is the nicest place we've stayed from Ca to Maine. Hope to visit again next year. New owners were terrific.
We enjoyed a couple of days at Timberline Campground, it is very charming and loaded with nice mature trees, however the sites are small and very tight, our 38 foot 5th wheel made it but it is tight, that is the only negative. We did not use any of the facilities so we have no opinions. We will stay here again should we journey that way.
The campground overall is a beautiful, well maintained RV Park. We have stayed here before and loved it. This time we found that any space across the back half of the park sounded like we were sitting in the middle of a war. About 20 yards from the sites is a skeet shooting range that starts up around 9:30 AM and goes until the middle of the afternoon during the week and till dark on weekends. It sounds like they are right next to the trailers. So unless you plan to be gone all day or have a really... Read More

It sounds like they are right next to the trailers. So unless you plan to be gone all day or have a really sound proof trailer, beware. Another minor problem is how narrow the spaces are. For the most part they are just wide enough for the trailer and slide outs. Not much space to sit out beside the trailer and hard to park a vehicle on either end of the space.

Woefully overpriced. Gravel roads seriously rutted. Restrooms desperately need updating to today's standards. Toilets in men's room were too low and too close to the stall door; I had to open the door in order to stand and pull my pants up. Showers were old.
A fortunate accident brought us to this great park. Our planned location didn't have any spaces for our rig. I called this park for a one night stay and the lady in the office was happy to accommodate our request. Trees and green grass were a pleasant change from our previous locations. The spaces are gravel with plenty of space between slots. There is a small fenced dog area and lots of space to walk around the grounds. Several recreation options on site include a volleyball net Rec hall and pool. Restrooms and showers are in two different locations. There is a small store on site and a great big HyVee grocery store with lots of food options about 15 minutes away.

Nice facility. Overpriced. No Wifi. In today's age, travelers expect, no require, Internet access. This park says that they have the service but.... Sites are mostly small and somewhat level. Limited number of full-service 50 amp sites to support a Pusher. If this is the best in Iowa, then I would not like to see the worst.
Very impressive campground with mature trees providing shade during the day. Our site was a gravel pad, with some green space and a picnic table on concrete pad. Sites were narrow requiring skill to pull thru or back in without impeding on neighbors space. We did have some difficulty locating our site as road was not well marked. Fortunately an employee on an ATV did see our confusion and led us to our site. There is no cable, but air channels were well received. Disappointed that we couldn't use... Read More

Watched the fifth wheel in front of me miss a tree and hit a site pole as he attempted to leave the park, he foolishly tried to stay on the road instead of driving on the grass to clear the rear wheels...damage to his undercarriage, steps, etc. ... new trailer, ugh.

very disappointed, stayed one night, the pull thru site we were in was so un level, we had to disconnect our car and back out of the pull thru site because the driveway was so steep it would have damaged our motorhome. the staff were nice in the office but I would not recommend this campground if you have a motorhome over 30 foot
Doesn't state in listing they charge to use a cr cd. Tight for a big rig & most pull thrus you have to unhook. Dump station hard to get to & turns by it are blocked by vehicles parked on road & grass. Can cause some serious damage. Roads inside park not well marked.
They accommodated our large fifth wheel will nice long site with 50 amp and water. Easy to pull into and very easy level up. Just very close to our neighbor on one side. But still had room for their and our slide outs. . Camp ground had a lot of shade and well maintained. Had no issues with the staff.
Management helpful, facility lacks walking trails but town has very nice long one. Gunshots from major tournament sounded like roofers working, not loud or near at all, I drove to range, shooting is AWAY from the facility. Bathroom very nice. Lots of room for our 18 foot trailer, sites are close but typical for commercial facility. We would stay there again.
We called the RV Campground in advance to set up our reservation and informed the lady on the phone when we needed the space and how long our 5th wheel (43 feet) was and that we wanted a pull through. She stated all they had available for the dates we requested was a site with electricity and water only. This was a busy weekend and she stated all sites were spoken for. As we called several other places and there were no spaces available, we accepted the reservation at Timberline. When we arrived the lady in the reservation office was very rude and acted like it was a problem to register us. Our assigned site (81) was tiny even though we asked her if the site would be big enough for our brand new 2017, 43 foot 5th wheel, she assured us it would be. There was a young tree planted right next to our assigned site which tore a whole in our RV roof! The whole park is so very small with no room for maneuvering (I am an experienced RV operator). We were worried that we would not be able to get out the next morning as the sites were so small and tight. You could not park your vehicle next to your RV as there wasn't room to do so. The restrooms were also very tiny and needed updating. The door is right there in front of your face, very little room. The way the RV park entrance is set up, you are stuck in a long line as there is only room for one RV at a time to check in. One of the reasons we chose this park is because it is a Good Sam Park. I don't think I will completely trust that stamp of approval again. Still trying to understand why this RV Park has such a high rating and think this park should be re-evaluated. The electricity/water site we were assigned was $41.27 per night and I believe the Full hook-up sites were 42.00 or 43.00 per night. I will definitely not stay at this RV Campground again and would not recommend it to anyone.

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR RVS 40 Ft or above. Sites too small. On first entering this is a visually attractive campground. But problems began when we were sandwiched between 2 RV's groups who had no considerations of their neighbors. Could not open our awning the whole week, barely got our slide open, & could not use our picnic area. Right next to a Shooting Range (gunfire every afternoon). I give this review from the perspective of an RVer. That is to say we are not campers. This is a great place to stay. Some folks don't care for the gun club next door but you get used to it. Packed in like sardines! Maybe ok for a quick overnight while traveling! Our camper door faced the neighbors door and only one of us could put out our awning. Definitely not a place you would want to spend much time. They have a nice swimming pool. Gun firing range on other side of surrounding hedge!
We stopped at this campground based on Good Sam ratings. I was really surprised this campground got a high rating. We thought the Managers were very rude, like you were a bother to them. The sight we ended up in was TERRIBLE. It was all gravel (what little of it was there) with little to no room on either side of the camper. No fire ring for evening campfire, Just an all around bad experience. We will NOT be back.
Horrible does not begin to describe the experience we had here. And that was before we ever set up. After checking in we went to the site they assigned us to find that we could not get into it. The adjoining campsite occupant had blocked the mutual entrance. We went back to the office and instead of offering to go knock on their door, she suggested I do that. Supposed also a pull thru, the gravel ended and the "pull thru" was onto grass between two vehicles. I walked up to the office to let her know and she told me we could NOT HAVE THAT SITE. There was a rally coming in the next day and that site was already reserved. By the way, it was dark and raining. She offered me a third site, a back in, and I refused. I told her I was not going to keep driving my $45000 camper around in the rain in an unfamiliar campground, just to find out I couldn't have that site either. About then her husband came in and unwillingly offered to go knock on the door of the guy blocking the first site. We spent 30 minutes trying to get into that site after that, in the rain. Most of their sites are too small and angled oddly. None of the roads are one way, like most campgrounds. She never offered a refund or discount for the trouble. How can they not know who is where? Or let someone block another site? They seem completely out of touch with the needs of campers. The "Dump Station" was at a T-intersection, at the top of a hill, not anywhere near level or with enough room to actually use it, so we did not. The area is indeed beautiful, but for what I had to pay and the problems I had I will not stay there again. How they have such a good rating with Good Sam is beyond me, unless it is old. Horrible owners, horrible setup.

Then on Sunday morning we were suddenly aware that gunfire was going off VERY close to our campsite, which was near one end of the campground. There is a corn field adjoining the facility and gunfire was almost continuous on Sunday morning coming from that cornfield. I am one of those people who is just not use to gunfire going off in fairly close proximity to where I am! My husband, during checkout, asked the manager about the gunfire and it turns out the Des Moines Gun Club meets most weekends right next to this campground. I have to admit that as much as I loved the visuals of this resort, we will not be returning for this one reason. I would love to give it a higher score but cannot simply because of the gunfire. If you are camping with a dog who has storm phobia or is gun-phobic (as we were!) this is one campground to avoid.
