We just checked in and are we are very unhappy. They advertise “large grassy sites” and “beautiful shady sites”. Our”PREMIUM” site has no shade, a small patch of grass. Are “beautiful “ “view” is the Maintenance shed and a rundown barn surrounded by a wooden fence. . None of the “premium sites” here are large or shady. This should not even be an RV site. We will never recommend this place to anyone!
Nice park. Sites were near level but too close to your neighbor. Utilities are side-by-side and close to other sight next door. Not many trash containers around which didn't help for dog pickup. Has a huge dog park but we found the fence is a little short for our Fido since she can jump pretty high. However, was impressed with the dog wash. It is automated and is very useful. Staff is nice and helpful. We were able to enjoy many activities in the Durango area from this location. The train ride is... Read More

This park is about 5 miles north of central Durango. The front section of the park has the "premier" sites which are pull-through for larger RV's. The back section has lots of trees with mostly pull-in and back-in sites at all kinds of angles, generally smaller and tighter spaces. We were given a site in the back section for our motorhome. It was a pull-in with 30 amp electric service. It was badly unlevel, particularly side to side. I keep telling myself to avoid parking under trees because... Read More

I keep telling myself to avoid parking under trees because of the bad things that can fall on you such as sap, bird poop, etc. In this case we ended up with what looked like a fine spray of some sap. There is WiFi but it just barely reached our site and was rarely usable. We had to go to the office to get any use from it. The bathrooms are OK, decent condition and reasonably clean. All things considered, it's not a bad park but we did not like our site, #27. Pay attention to your receipt. We were initially charged $4.50 per day for an extra vehicle. Their website specifies that the rates include two people and one tow, which is what we had. We went to the office and they refunded this erroneous charge. We paid $48.15 per night.

This is a great park to stay in when visiting the Durango area. It is located a few miles north of town and is a great central point for driving the San Juan Skyway, going to Verde National Park, doing the Durango / Silverton train or just relaxing at the park with nice views of the mountains. (The Silverton train rails run right in front of the park and you can hear the whistles in the distance in the morning and afternoons). They make their own pizza and will even deliver it to your site if you request. It is really very good and a nice option when you don't want to cook or go anywhere. The office has a nice supply of basics for your convenience and the free popcorn is a nice touch. The staff is very friendly and pleasant.
The only negatives are the wifi and the pool. The wifi is non-existent except at the office. The pool is tiny and there is no hot tub. Adding a hot tub (or just converting the pool to a large hot tub) would add a lot of value to this park.

Pro's: Plenty of shade and trees. Definitely a dog park. Very nice fenced in dog area. Very nice laundry and bathrooms. Very nice people and staff! Some of the best hand-made pizza I've ever had! You've got to try the pizza. Oh, the free popcorn is great too! Cons: While it is a park that has a lot of dogs, dogs are not allowed in any buildings or even on the patio or front porch?! Don't believe for a second that they have usable WiFi. It's simply not true. The only place WiFi if usable... Read More

Cons: While it is a park that has a lot of dogs, dogs are not allowed in any buildings or even on the patio or front porch?! Don't believe for a second that they have usable WiFi. It's simply not true. The only place WiFi if usable is on their front porch. And, they do have a pool, but it is tiny! And, they have no lounge chairs and only a total of 3 plastic chairs that are bolted down to the floor?! Over a 4 day period, I think I'm the only person who used the pool. They only have one dumpster for the whole park and it's pretty far away from most of the sites. (Good exercise, I guess.) Lastly, this park is pretty far outside of Durango. If you don't have a car or some type of vehicle, you're stuck. There are no real options for getting into town.

Many work campers help to make this an enjoyable place to stay. They take you to your site, let you get setup then go check in. Excellent Pizza at night, all you can eat pancake breakfast also good. Everyone working there were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.
The spaces are adequate. The two miles from town means from the city limits, not really a problem. Restrooms and laundry are great. Breakfast is not nearly worth the $8.49. The store has lots of stuff but some things there are empty. Whole site not worth the $48 per night, nor even the $44 after discount. $30 would be more appropriate.
stayed there for the 5th time and they are a 10, great staff clean sites and restrooms the Pizza they make is very good, staff is very fast to get you checked in and to your site.
We have stayed here many times. Park is always well kept, restrooms and laundry are CLEAN! People are helpful and super nice. They also serve breakfast and Pizza that is awesome!
Great park. But don't follow the GPS instructions to get into the park. Our Good Sam GPS took us down a bad back road along the backside of the park where all you see if the park over the fence. It was hard to get back off the road. Anyhow, the park was very nice and the shower/bath house was great. Nice big hot clean showers. They had many services shutdown for the season as it was nearly the end of the season I think. But still had nice space around the sites, and lots of large trees. Close enough... Read More

Close enough to town to give you a quiet night's sleep and yet easy access to Durango and all there is to do. We were there durring a rainy time, and the park seemed to have some drainage issue and alot of standing water, but they they said they had an unusual amount of rain in a short period. Overall a very nice place.

This was our third stay at this wonderful park. The park's most outstanding feature is where it is located and the views from your spot. Also, the staff is incredible and friendly and will help with anything you need. Restrooms are great and kept clean constantly. Access to Durango, Silverton, Telluride and the Soaring Colorado Zip Lines is incredible and cannot be touched by any of the other parks. Spaces are large and include grass and trees for shade and we have already made our reservations... Read More

Very nice park, you can see the Durango - Silverton railroad go by morning and evening.
We spent most of July at Alpen Rose and are already booked for next summer. The staff was friendly and helpful at all times. The park is close to Durango but also in a great location for day trips to Mesa Verde, Pagosa Springs, Silverton, Ouray, Telluride and much more. The dog park is the largest we've encountered - about two acres. Order a fresh pizza or calzone and it will be delivered to your site. Using GPS? Stay on US 550 - do NOT follow directions to get onto route 203 as it takes you past... Read More

Very clean and pretty park. Lots of trees! Staff super friendly and accomodating. Have to try the homemade calzones! Would definitely stay again. Great base camp for exploring Durango, only about 15 minutes away from town.
