Small FHU park located at Stove Pipe Wells village, adjacent to a much larger rustic RV park. Only 14 spaces, and reservations are required as it is the only FHU option in the National Park. Beware squatters trying to sneak in, management seems to ignore RV park and we never saw an employee. Sites are dirt, roads are dirt.theres pretty much dirt as far as you can see, but the desert views are amazing and the location is central to all the sightseeing adventures. Utilities all ran fine and were... Read More

Utilities all ran fine and were located in the middle of the sites which have reasonable room between neighbors. No wifi, only available at the lobby and saloon. There is cell coverage, but ATT says its off network so hotspotting is iffy. Saloon and restaurant across street attached to the hotel. Large general store adjacent to property has some basic items, but strongly advised to do major grocery provisioning before arrival. Death Valley is a surprisingly popular tourist attraction and November begins the season as temps are mild. LOTS of rental campers and foreign tourists. Also a large percentage of "free spirits" in semi-mobile hostels. Lowest elevation in Western Hem at -282 feet. Very pretty desert geology with multicolored vistas and sand dunes. Diesel was $5.80 so a day trip and fill-up to Beatty, about 30 miles away in Nevada saved us about $40. Very cool ghost town nearby (Rhyolite) with vintage RR station.

The Stovepipe Wells village has two campgrounds, a primitive campground and a RV campground. The RV campground has full hookup sites for exceptionally reasonable prices; that's where I stayed. Having a store and gas station in the village was very helpful and the staff members were knowledgeable and extremely helpful. They have a large area to walk pets on leash. The night skies are fabulous because the village has lights that are bright enough when your near them, but do not light up the surrounding... Read More
