Estes Park is a great place to explore after visiting the Rocky Mountain National Park from the Bear Lake Road Corridor. Spruce Lake RV Resort is only about 2 miles from the entry. We cannot recommend the WayFinder restaurant next to the park. The store nearby is expensive. We cannot recommend the coffee bar. The Safeway store is not much more down the road. Spruce Lake RV Park could use some updates, but the rustic feel was not in any way a negative for us. The staff was efficient and friendly. On some days, we saw more wildlife in the RV park than at Rocky Mtn National Park. Elk, wild turkey, geese, deer and fish were all frequent visitors. Unfortunately, there were some domestic dogs that were not under control, but the park addressed this quickly. Dog owners should show respect to their fellow campers and keep their dogs on a leash at all times. Estes Park is a wonderful place. It is the best downtown area for browsing, buying and people watching. The River walk is beautiful and makes the strolling even better. Try Kind Coffee and You Need Pie. Excellent service and products. Rocky Mountain National Park cannot be adequately explained. Just go.

We stayed in the campground for 3 nights for the purpose of touring RMNP which has an entrance only 5 minutes away and Estes Park town which was 5 minutes in the other direction. From that standpoint the location of this campground was ideal for us. As all our time was invested in the RMNP and Estes Park sites we didn't have significant expectations of the campground facilities for entertainment. The people helping campers at the site were wonderful, helpful and very friendly. The sites themselves are well designed but tight. The back in sites, we had one, were set up on an offset basis where a trailer was backed up to the edge of your site but offset from your trailer. The tow vehicles had to be parked in the open space beside each trailer. The ground was mostly dirt with very sparse grass but as it didn't rain this wasn't an issue for us. The hookups all worked perfectly including the cable TV which was welcome. We didn't try their bathroom or laundry facilities. There isn't space in the backin sites for trees although there are trees on the hillside behind the campground. There are trees scattered in other parts of the campground where space exists. Had we wanted to spend a lot of time in the campground I don't believe we would have been as satisfied with the cramped campsite but for what we needed (i.e. a place to eat dinner, watch a little TV and sleep) it was perfectly acceptable. We had been told during set up that Elk would sometimes wander through the campground area early morning and late afternoon/evening. We saw this on two evenings, they went into the campground next door on the other side of a fence line but were nevertheless very enjoyable to view. There was a community firepit (fires were not allowed in the individual campsites) and we saw a large fire one night but elected to pass on that offering. The pull through sites in the campground had more space than the backins but I wouldn't say any were overly generous in size. Nevertheless we enjoyed our stay with them and found the people that helped us to be very professional and helpful. The couple directly behind us had a tow vehicle failure that forced them to try and stay for a couple of weeks while the dealer in Loveland (about 30 miles away) ordered parts for the repair. They told us the the management shuffled around their site assignments for the next two weeks to enable them to stay in their present site and avoid hiring a tow truck to move their 5th wheel trailer. Given it was a busy time of the year for the campground it seemed to me that that service was beyond normal expectations.

The park is beginning to look run down. Just about every structure needs maintenance. It has become basically a dirt dusty lot with very little grass. The sites are EXTREMELY TIGHT. We arrived 15 minutes before the 1:00 check in time and they wanted to charge us $25 for early arrival. This left a bad taste in our mouth from the beginning. We have stayed her... Read More

I have camped Spruce Lake RV resort for the past 4 years. It seems each year the thought or need for customer service is lacking. I have camped Spruce Lake RV resort for the past 4 years. It seems each year the thought or need for customer service is lacking. The retirees are very pleasant˜ and helpful however management was not. We got the "whatever" attitude. If the services paid for are not available during your stay, you will be given the option to pack up and leave, with no consideration for your family and vacation, all while no refund of any deposit or fees. The resort then fills your spot with another customer who will have the same problems while being charged the resort fees. With friends we had 3 sites this last reservation. Each of us paid for full hook up, $218.69 for 3 nights $72.90 a night a piece. Pretty pricey for camping however that was not our problem. If you pay for a service, you should receive a service, if the service is broken, you should be accommodated and or refunded for the service paid but not received. We were told if we left that night, our last night, we would get that night refunded and nothing else.˜ I asked what about the last 2 nights/days without the services we paid for? When the problem was presented to the camp office, we were told they already knew about the problem. So why did they have us set up camp in this site? On our 3rd day at the site we were offered to move sites, however, by listening to other campers they had issues with their electricity tripping their breakers too but at least theirs could be reset.˜ So the hassle of the move would not guarantee us electricity. Also, our friends did not have a tow truck for the day as she was called into work/hospital on emergency and we planned a fun outdoor excursion in the Rocky Mountains and un-hooking, packing up and moving RVs and sites would be time consuming and take away from the purpose of us being in Estes. We planned our meals using devices needing electricity. If we knew we would not have electricity we would have planned our meals accordingly or brought our generator. We decided to make the most of it. We went into town, bought more food items not needing electricity to prepare and decided we were going to enjoy the pool and hot tub after a long day, however, on the pool fence was a "The Pool is Closed For Repair" sign. I can see if we were asking for a full refund. We were not. We were asking for a refund of the services not received, some kind of accommodation and for the owners of the campsite to be accountable for their resort and lack of services. Possible solutions or suggestions that would made customer relations better: refund partial payment, offer free fishing or other electrical options˜ to our site. Instead we were treated as if we were the ones with the problem. Also for those considering this campground, there are extra fees. If you want to fish the cost is 10.50 a day per person with a 2 fish minimum whether you catch fish or not. If you need to dump there is an extra $15 fee Wifi-I got better service using my provider with wifi turned off. Also beware, you are asked for 50% deposit for your stay. If you need to cancel, no matter how far out or what the emergency, you WILL NOT receive a refund. This campground is not of resort calibur.˜ On a positive note it is nice to see the pond is stocked, the retirees are pleasant, the grounds are clean and as with any area in Estes, the backdrop is beautiful. Unfortunately, will not return to this campground simply due to bad service and management. Frankly, management and CFO just do not care about their customers.

Garbage pickup is done twice daily but the magpies get to it if put out too early. No dumpster because of a visiting bear. We did not see him the four nights we stayed. The view was amazing though. The mountains surround you. You are close to town but not really within walking distance. We were close enough to hear the elk that were in the area. We had a flat tire when we went to leave, so we were past checkout by the time we had it repaired. They had no problem but it was a weekday.

Good resort close to town and RM National Park. Nice Views. Restrooms and laundry were clean. Pool area nice but water cold. Hot tub next to pool. Playground for kids. The little lake is really a nice feature with fishing from the side. Area around river to walk dogs. Staff friendly. The only complaints are that the sites were very close together and the picnic table was very dirty and broken and holes in it.

"We would stay here again." **** We had no major issues during this stay (pad #75). One time (at checkout "dump time") there was a bit of back pressure on the sewer hookup that it inflated the hose and then the hose snaked off the support (I keep both black and grey closed and only open for emptying). After a few hours, there was no issues draining the black and grey tanks at the site. There was a little dust from roads. A paved one lane through the park would help that a lot. Trash pickup was... Trash pickup was well organized and nice - still would be nice to also have access to a secured dumpster so trash does not have to be kept in camper trailer overnight. The staff is friendly, welcoming and helpful and at the same time very busy. You are escorted to your site and directed into your site. Nuthin' wrong with that! Hook-ups are average condition and vary a bit with each pad. Wi-Fi Internet is fair and works fine. Cable TV had many channels at the time of this post. Getting TV over air is poor to none. Very nice dog walks! Dog waste bags were provided! Bathrooms/showers are well-kept and clean. p.s. Check out the photospheres I've shared on Google Maps internal to the park.

Over 2 people costs $5 PER person Fishing costs $8.50 PER PERSON- EACH DAY Guests for a few hours! $5 for the car plus $5 PER PERSON + tax! It's costed $27.50 for our friends to come eat dinner. Late check out (11:00-2:00): Normally $25, but crowded so wouldn't allow it. Scenery: Beautiful Activities: Fishing, playground, swimming, games. Although they claim to have activity room and Putt Putt golf, they do not. Location: Close to Estes Park, but not walkable. Although, there are a few shops and restaurants in walking distance. Garbage: No dumpsters and they make you pick up garbage. They tell you leave your trash out at 8-10am and 4-6pm, but have to pick up because of bears. Personally, the way they nickel and dimmed, I just think they don't want to pay for for a secure garbage bin. We had to keep out garbage from dinner in the camper through the night. At night: Pitch black. No lights. Interesting because they threatened bears. So of course, we were scarred to death to walk to the restrooms after dark. Laundry: $2.50 washer and 2.00 dryer. 10:00pm closed Wifi: Not good even on slow day. I overheard the lady tell new guest it was crowded tonight so may not work well.We were here for 7 days. 4 of the days there was barely anyone here and it still didn't work well. It was very intermittent and wouldn't work on anything strong like movies or Google maps. We have to come to Colorado for a week every year. This was first year of that. We will not be back at this park next year. Found some other beautiful places near by.

Our family greatly enjoyed this spot as a launching point for our RMNP adventures during Labor Day weekend. The campground was crowded with kiddos which was exactly what we wanted. Everyone was respectful and quite during quite hours. The location is close to the river, making it ideal for light early morning fly fishing.

This was our first time staying at Spruce Lake. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Park was clean and was kept that way for the 4 weeks we were there. The pool was under repair because of damage due to hydrostatic pressure, but we were given a pass to use the pool at their sister property (Elk Meadows). Restrooms and showers had been redone and were always clean. The property borders the Big Thompson River so this is a plus especially if you are wanting to trout fish.
