RV Park Model Rentals:

I wanted to write a fair and balanced review of West Wind RV & Golf Resort. We visited in March 2021 and stayed for 4 nights. The price was right and when I made the reservation the lady who helped me was polite and helpful. When we arrived, the check-in was easy and again staff was helpful. We were a bit shocked to see so many park models in a place that still calls itself an RV Park but understandable for the area of Yuma. When I made the reservation, I was very clear to the lady helping me that we had a 45ft motorhome with tow car. When we arrived, I found that they had originally put us into a space that even a 40ft. coach would have had a hard time getting into. Upon check-in the lady helping me told me they had moved us into another site and she was not sure why. We had 2 somewhat helpful nice park hosts take us to our assigned site where we again found we could not fit into. They talked between themselves and decided they knew of a larger site. Problem with this resort is it was built in the early 90's and designed for no larger than 40 ft. RV's. To get a 45 ft. RV into a site you have to find one with nobody behind you so you can take part of that site. Still the hosts only backed us up far enough in to get off the street leaving our front door opening into a drainage ditch around a palm tree. I said fine, no problem, we could make it work. Due to liability issues, I guess the park hosts are NOT allowed to actually help you back into the sites, only show you the spot you need to hit which again is a bit crazy. The park was laid out with the water, sewer, and power pedestal far apart, not together like most parks. It's like threading a needle when you back into the site. The hosts only helped make sure I didn't' back over the water and sewer. What kept puzzling me was that Good Sam rates this park 10/10/10 and it's nowhere deserving of this rating. I've been to many triple 10 parks and this park doesn't even make the 7/7/7 grade. There are NO tables or fire pits. Very disappointed in Good Sam for this false rating. The park was clean, quiet, and well-kept except for a few park models which have fallen into disrepair and allowed to stay that way. Again, you get the feeling walking around that you are NOT in an RV park but a trailer park that is going downhill. We found most of the park staff or what appeared to be volunteers helpful and polite. The two exceptions were an older lady at the front desk which I asked one morning for directions to view the new border wall. She forgot she was an employee and made a very unprofessional statement about the border wall being a "ridiculous looking thing". Maybe ridiculous in her mind but when you are working for someone else you should keep your politics to yourself. The second negative with employees was an older lady at the front gate. We entered one morning in our tow car which is equipped with a windshield cam that records not only video but time, speed, and location. When we came up to the gate, she felt we were traveling too fast and told us so entering the park which is a long driveway type. When we arrived at our site I checked the camera and found we were traveling 8mph at the entry which is less than the 10mph posted. Fine I said, we can handle one somewhat grumpy older lady. This was our first visit to Yuma and most likely will be our last. If you're on a real budget, Yuma is the place to come. If you would rather spend a little more and stay in a true 10/10/10 RV park you won't find one in Yuma.

New level of cleanliness. Park has upgraded pet sanitary rules to prohibit any pet defecation or urination within the park, including on rented sites. Pets can driven outside park confines for bio needs. No more sometimes-ignored clean up after pet rules.
Almost none of the activities begin until November 1, including the golf. The spa was finally turned on to warm around the 22 Oct. This park was listed as dog friendly but it very definitely is not. You must walk your dog down the middle of the hot street. One very small corner with a huge hard to latch swinging gate is the only dog area. It is way too small for the number of dogs that use it. There are many gates around The park to take you outside. The goathead stickers are very bad in... Read More

There are many gates around The park to take you outside. The goathead stickers are very bad in many of those areas making it hard. The special we used to visit was 30% off 4 nights. The way they do that is to give you one night free. That is 25% off, not 30% but that's how they do their math here. It really should be a lot less considering the lack of activities available. No one stated that the golf course or anything else is closed. It didn't state it on the website either. The people are friendly and I'm sure the park is fun in the winter just avoid the restaurant on Wednesdays, karaoke night. It's pretty awful, but the food is good. There are too many options in the area to come here if you are a pet owner.

So we came down to Yuma to look for a vacation home in the hottest time of the year, 108 to 115 degree days, nuts we know. But we have to say that the park was empty except for a few local residents, and we had the entire resort to our selves. Best kept secret is to visit in the off season. We thought we had won the lottery, a private resort to our selves. Played golf, went swimming no one around us. The restaurant was great, the food was excellent. the staff although a few were a little cranky... Read More

A wonderful vacation, and time at this resort we recommend coming down for a visit anytime. Close to a Walmart, and other locations. We really enjoyed our stay.

We stayed at Westwind on April 13th and April 15th, on our way to/from Tucson. There were two highlights for us: (1) the dog-friendly atmosphere and (2) the great food. We travel with our two dogs, and when I told the lady on the phone about them, she suggested a back-in space at the back of the park, near a gate leading to a very large sandy area where the dogs could run free. This was wonderful for our cattle dog, as she could chase her ball and get a good run, thus making her nice and relaxed... Read More

This was wonderful for our cattle dog, as she could chase her ball and get a good run, thus making her nice and relaxed for the rest of the trip. They also have a couple of small, fenced in grassy areas for dogs. Being at the back of the park made it very quiet - well away from the freeway. We didn't eat in the caf,/restaurant, but it's very scenic, overlooking the golf course I had a Philadelphia Cheese sandwich for dinner and a breakfast sandwich for breakfast and both were very generous servings and delicious. They were cutting back for the season when we were there, and on the 15th we got there after the office closed at 3:00 p.m., and the brochure we were given didn't include the gate code or the internet codes. Fortunately I had saved the brochure from the 13th. We don't use TV, internet, or restrooms but my husband considered having a shower until he saw the showers apparently he was less than impressed by them. The park was not crowded we had four or five spaces on both sides of us. In general we greatly enjoyed both stays, and will return.

This was a great place. I loved the beautiful golf course and the cafe next to it where we could watch the golfers make their rounds. They have a lot of activities during the winter season. We were there at the tail end of the season so things were winding down, but we attended their last church service and it was wonderful. There were about 125-150 people there and the minister was inspiring. My friend, who is a quilter, met a lovely bunch of ladies who have a quilting group there, apparently year-round.... Read More

The pool and hot tub are open all the time and that's convenient and user-friendly, too. I would stay there again anytime I pass through Yuma. I highly recommend it.

Showers have such little pressure, it's nearly impossible to take a shower... Probably the worst showers that we have experienced in the past 10 RV Parks... Internet is basically non-existent from the sites... Needed to attend the library every day to get connected / even then we sometimes could not connect... Cable TV connections broken in our site / the site beside / and several others... Many people complaining about this... Service staff (on carts) very friendly and helpful... Overall,... Read More

It was a very pleasant stay. Everyone that worked there was nice and friendly. Not a lot of people there in the summer months. It felt like we had the place almost to ourselves. The pool and spa area was awesome. The hot-tub is 30' long and 4' deep. Truly amazing. We did not do many thing there during the days because its hot in the summer as everyone knows. The only con was the showers floors did not seem as clean as they could be. Maybe not as much maintenance during the summer months, Otherwise... Read More
