We had a great week at Camp Hatteras. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The sound side was awesome and the sites were reasonably sized with concrete pads. There are no trees or shade. It was a short walk to the beach. The bathrooms were very clean. Be prepared for some wind. We had to pull in our slides one night. The camp store is small and limited. The dog park was large and well maintained. The only complaint we had was the bike rental fees were very high. We didn’t rent any bikes because... Read More

MEH:
Full hookup although water pedestal was way forward and separated from sewer and electric. No idea why it’s different here than at other campgrounds but it makes for lots of obstacles to avoid when backing in. And we had to move our RV forward in order to reach water spigot even with our long hose.
Indoor and outdoor pools and hot tub - nice to have and good size but could use TLC.
Not enough activities esp. considering size of campground and site cost. But water balloon fight for kids was very well organized with lots of balloons, and kids rewarded for picking up balloon litter with ice cream coupon. Win/win!
BAD:
- Sites were way cramped - they really pack you in.
- They tell you to be considerate and not cut through sites but can’t contribute a few feet to offer a path rather than walking a long way around. THEY should be considerate as many other campgrounds provide paths!
- Most expensive campground we’ve ever been to even just for 2 adults. But cable, kids, dogs, extra adults each cost $3 - $8 more per day. It REALLY adds up and was ridiculous. We hooked up to cable and got it for free. We refused to claim extra people and pet. Even the people boomdocking in their van for one night - arriving late and leaving early - in their cheaper sites paid $98.
- Only 4 oceanfront sites on northeast corner, at most, have any chance of seeing the ocean from the site. Between dunes, campground roadway, pavilion and parking between all other oceanfront sites and beach, we’d a been hoppin’ mad if we’d paid an extra $50 nightly for those.
- It’s windy, people are slobs, and they do pick up some litter, but not nearly enough. There was lots of litter on sites, caught up in bushes and grasses, mowed over when they mowed without picking litter first, caught up in sound next to their wooden boardwalk. We asked repeatedly for them to clean up. Staff was friendly but ignored us so...really not so friendly. GM got involved and made it happen, but still plenty more. We picked up some. They need a staff cultural change to constantly pick litter and not mow without picking litter first.
- Tennis court was new and in fabulous condition with lines for pickle ball and youth tennis too. But only open when office was open beginning at 9am. It’s HOT then. We brought our own racquets and went to play early in the morning before seeing sign and locked gate. Ugh!
- No fire pits provided like at KOA two doors south and they tell you that if you bring your own fire pit, it must be off the ground. Sheesh! We brought ours but it was too windy for us or anyone else to do a fire, leave our awnings, canopies, etc. anyway. Bummer!
UGLY:
— Wifi is pretty much zero. We connected a time or two from our site in early morning/dark hours but couldn’t even check email. Only places to get on were at hotspots in clubhouse. Staff says it’s because people are streaming/overloading. Nope, it’s because they need to update and size their system for 400 sites.

Great campground! Very nice facility. Staff was friendly and helpful. Great being on the beach and conveniently located to restaurants and the National Seashore.
The Takeaway: vast sandy stretches of beach on the unparalleled OBX offer a inimitable vacation experience. The park stretches from oceanside to soundside in a quiet area of the OBX away from the vacation dense populations of Nags Head to the north and Avon to the south. Level concrete pads with patio, FHU, strong 50 amp electrical, and cable. WiFi is good and supports streaming. There are some very good local restaurants and seafood markets in Waves, Manteo and Avon all worth driving to. And there... Read More

I was looking forward for a week of camping in the outer banks and although it was a good time the campground was not deserving of an overall high rating. The staff was nice but not as friendly or welcoming as most campground I have visited. I'm an outgoing person and like to chat but I received that uncomfortable feeling all week that they had a job to do and being friendly was not part of the job. I felt watched as everyday they came past my campsite inspecting to see if I connected to the cable... Read More

The staff was nice but not as friendly or welcoming as most campground I have visited. I'm an outgoing person and like to chat but I received that uncomfortable feeling all week that they had a job to do and being friendly was not part of the job. I felt watched as everyday they came past my campsite inspecting to see if I connected to the cable TV system, for the few dollars it cost per day for cable they should add into the cost of camping and advertise free cable, it would feel like more bang for my buck. I also had to pay extra for my daughter and son-in-law, again include it in the price, I felt I was being up-charged for anything I did. The concrete pads are important but they don't clean the sand off the pads of maintain the area around it.
It's a nice campground but not a resort type facility, I expected more for what I had to pay per night. I wouldn't tell you not to camp there but I found other campgrounds in the area that provide a good camping experience but for some it's location and I get that. I Just think management needs to review what a good camping experience should be. Reservations was easy to get at this campground and others was booked up and that should tell you something.

We spent Thanksgiving here, and we loved it! We stayed oceanside, just a short walk to the beach. You could hear the waves, even if you couldn't see them. The beach was very nice, and very clean. The sites were a bit small, but nice and flat, concrete pads with a concrete picnic area and nice picnic table. Campfires only in raised fire-rings, so bring your own or buy one there. Wifi not so great, but we were "camping", so it was adequate for our needs. We did not use the bath house, but the... Read More

An outside light at the laundry room door would have been helpful.
The campground is roughly halfway down the Outer Banks, which was convenient for taking in the attractions at either end of the islands.
The staff was quite friendly and helpful. The campground was clean and well maintained. Very pet-friendly, and very quiet at night. We would definitely stay there again!!

We decided to ditch the family and spent Thanksgiving in OBX this year. We stayed at this park through the Coast to Coast network and absolutely loved it. The sites all have concrete pads and, while they aren't the largest sites we've seen, there was plenty of space for our Super C. The sites had cable television (nominal extra charge) and the wifi was good around the office, but not at the sites. Wifi at campsites is a bonus in my mind, though - we are, after all, camping. We stayed for a little over a week this summer and I fell in love with the campground. The sites next to the ocean were a little pricey but worth it to be able to sit outside and hear the waves. There were not very many restaurants nearby but the drive to several wonderful places was not too far. You must try the Froggy Dog. It's not a hot dog place but it's really good. Just be sure to order the Outer Banks vacation guide. We will be going back and staying in this campground and we will... Read More

worth the trip
This is a wonderful campground! It is clean, the staff friendly and helpful and campsites well maintained. We were on the beach side, and even though we couldn't see the beach, we could hear the ocean and were just a few steps from it. We rode across to the sound side in the evening and watched the sunset. Magnificent!!
Beautiful place. The camp ground is massive on both sides of the road. The ocean side and sound side sites are in full sun. All sites have a concrete pad. The ocean side beach is fabulous, but if you're camping there you can't see it. You can hear it. But there is a large dune preventing any sight of it. The sound side is great you have full view of the water. My biggest complaint with this place is that the sites are more of a parking lot. The sites are extremely small. Once you open your... Once you open your awning it is almost touching the neighboring trailer. The internet is useless. You really can't ever get much out of it.
