This is our "Go-To" camping spot for trips to the central coast from our home near Fresno. The park is close to all of the central coast attractions and beaches yet not right on the beach so you don't get as much of the cold and damp from seaside locations. The park is located in a county recreation area and includes an excellent dog-park, playground for the kids, botanical garden and is within easy walking distance of the excellent Dairy Creek Golf Course. Prices are reasonable and the park is regularly patrolled and maintained by county park employees.
The down-sides to this park include the proximity to Hwy 1 with the resultant traffic noise, especially at night. While not a huge issue to RVers it can be a problem for tent campers. On weekends you're likely to hear the troops training at nearby Ft. San Luis Obispo. Bathrooms and showers are clean but primitive. Hiking in the nearby hills is excellent but during the warm months be sure to take steps to protect yourself and pets from ticks.
Bishop loop campsites have no hook-ups, are cheaper but also closer to the highway. Chumash sites have full hook-ups (no WIFI or internet) but RV size is limited. Romaldi Loop has larger sites with some that can accommodate full size motor homes. It is the furthest from the freeway and has, IMO, the most desirable sites.
