Very nice place to stay. Staff was very welcoming and quick to get us in and settled down after a 2 day trip. Our site was prepped very nicely for our arrival, complete with a very nice picnic table to enjoy dinners outside and raked and smoothed out. Pool was a nice comfortable temp. Wifi was good closer to the store, a little slower at the campsite. We were informed of this in the handout. Looking forward to staying here again in the future.
My wife and I stayed for three nights in July of 2016. The grounds are well kept, the bathrooms clean, and the store was wonderfully stocked. In addition to the hook-up and rustic sites, they also offer efficiency studios and trailers - some of which have water access should you be towing your boat. Just past Bahia Honda, it's in a great location for snorkeling and fishing and only a short drive to Key West. Our favorite aspect of the site was not only the location, but the fact that it is a... Just past Bahia Honda, it's in a great location for snorkeling and fishing and only a short drive to Key West. Our favorite aspect of the site was not only the location, but the fact that it is a bit away from everything else. It's relaxed. It's quiet. And it's beautiful. Further, we were warmly welcomed by the staff and all of our site neighbors. Strangers were surprisingly hospitable and welcoming and we found ourselves eating dinner with several new friends.
For outings, try the trail from the north eastern side of the fishing lodge. It meanders along the shoreline, just inside the treeline and is mostly shaded. We came across a turtle nest, several key deer, and even found two cuban chugs. For nearby food, try the No Name Pub. The pizza is fantastic and the grouper delicious.
We're Floridians and we travel the state quite frequently. Finding this place feels like hitting the lottery - it's indescribable, really. We aim to make it a yearly trip.
Pros: the view, stocked store, clean bathrooms, on site hiking trails, boat ramp, cleaning station, dock access with multiple sites, both RV and non-RV friendly with studio apartments and rustic tent sites, nice pool, key deer so prolific you'll be tired of them, the attentive staff, entertainment, activities, and proximity to Bahia Honda
Cons: Size restricted. Large campers won't be able to access as there are no pull-through sites.

We had a double-wide back in site, but because the park was at maximum capacity, we were brought in via a front-end loader, otherwise the narrow winding lanes with cars along the sides would have been tricky. Lots of activities (great Christmas dinner for $7, $1 banana-split night, dancing, crafts). Very nice rec hall, games room and shuffleboard court. The pool was large with a spacious deck. The store was well-stocked. The park is bordered by the ocean and Wildlife park with a nice hiking... Read More

A key downside is that the park occasionally smells of sulfur due to the rotting kelp at the shore and nearby swamps. If you are sensitive to bug bites, the no-see-ums are vicious, so you'll need to keep DEET handy. The small beach is nice, and has a fire pit. Lots of small deer can be seen because most of Big Pine Key is a deer preserve. Not a lot going on on the whole of Big Pine Key, but you are only 45 minutes from Key West.
