This park is a hidden gem. We stayed 6 nights and would recommend this park to friends and will definitely come back. The initial space we received (space 63) we ended up moving from, it was the narrowest spot in the park. Space 63 would have been fine for someone staying one night and leaving the next day morning just not for us staying multiple nights as we enjoy sitting outside at night and also barbequing. The spot was so narrow that when someone arrived in spot 62 and opened their slides you... Read More

Space 63 would have been fine for someone staying one night and leaving the next day morning just not for us staying multiple nights as we enjoy sitting outside at night and also barbequing. The spot was so narrow that when someone arrived in spot 62 and opened their slides you could not use one side of the provided pick nick table. The laundry was nice and clean, the park provided 3 washers and dryer each. The park did not have cable TV but did have over the air TV. While we could receive TV in spot 63 it was spotty in our new location due to the amount of trees, keep in mind trees is one of the things that makes this park nice. Internet was provided and better than most parks. We did not use or view the restrooms / showers so we left them as a 4 out of 5 rating. Each space had a nice flat gravel place to setup your RV and also had a wood pick nick table and metal fire pit. The park backed up to Lake Pauline which we were told did not require a state of Illinois fishing license. We fished about 3 days and caught mostly bluegill and Crappie, threw them all back but it was fun. The park also had a lounge with a bar, pool table and gaming machines. The park also provided popcorn and cookies all day long. There was no designated dog park but lots of open spaces to take the dogs, no poop bags were provided. The best part of this park is it is out of the way and quiet, far away from the freeway, nice friendly staff, we would stay here again.

Nice Campground halfway across Illinois on I-70 in Effingham. Easy on and off from freeway, close to a Walmart. Excellent level sites with outstanding views of lake. Free popcorn, cookies and use of fishing boats. But the best thing is true free wifi. Not that crippled, non streaming wifi, like other sites, but real free wifi. Will recommend
We stopped here twice, both going and returning from Tennessee. It was our first time staying here and we were very pleased. It had been in the 90s and was nice to see our site had shade and cover. The trees were trimmed and easy access to and from our site. The full service hookups were like new and within reach. Very quiet and relaxing visit. The staff was exceptionally helpful and attentive. We did not use the rest rooms or other facilities just the camp store. This is our new halfway point... Read More

We made reservations months ahead of time, I was very clear, 37 foot travel trailer and 50 amp full hookup for one night. Arrived around 315 PM and was assigned a location of 20 feet total and 30 amp service. The host recognized the site was too small so reassigned us to number 37 quite uneven with little room for slide outs and awning so we had to choose and chose the slides then discovered this too was 30 amp Complained and they said we could move to the next site but we were already set up... Complained and they said we could move to the next site but we were already set up so decided to just accept it. Water pressure is dead on the low marking. A nice camp ground but the staff attention to detail is not where is should be. Not going to return

We happened to find this campground as we were traveling from Texas to Virginia. Beautiful location where were found it difficult to find a bad location. We noted there is a huge power line running through the property, but does not impede the flow of traffic or the relaxation. Lots of large trees to provide plenty of shade. Plenty of grass to walk our pup. Staff was very friendly and the restrooms were very clean and well maintained. My wife and I have discussed that this is a location that... Read More

Stayed here one night while passing through. Nice spot for an en route stop. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Facilities were clean and in good repair. Sites were wooded and ours was pretty level. Will definitely stay there again if passing through the area again.
Absolutely beautiful lakeside campground nestled in the trees. Lots of drive through sites with big spaces. Love the swings and decks to sit by the lake and relax. Kayaks, bbqs, docks, fishing, relaxing - just awesome and peaceful. The one and only thing I might change is to make the shower slightly hotter - but I wouldn't call that a complaint, the showers are clean and inviting. Will be staying here if we come back this way again!
Found this place via GoodSam recommendations and reviews. Lovely location easy to find pretty sites with plenty of trees and lake views relatively quiet welcoming staff. We stayed here only one night as we were in a rush to get from Indiana to Colorado before bad weather set in. We did not use the restroom or other facilities. Pull through sites were long enough to accommodate our 40' MH + car trailer. Photos are representative of the RV Park - except they do not show the major power line running... Read More

We'd happily return.

We stayed here for 2 nights in August and one in September on our way to and back from Maine from Texas. The park has lakefront sites and great views from most campsites, and the staff is hospitable and very friendly and helpful. Grounds are well maintained and the restrooms are lovely. They also have a adult lounge that is open during cocktail time, which is a first for our camping stays. GREAT CAMPGROUND !!!
Absolutely great park! Staff so friendly & welcoming. Love the park & lounge will be back. Only critique is the spots were a bit tight. Excellent customer service, very clean & close to HW. We will be back.
From the moment of an easy and comfortable check-in to further interaction with the staff my experience was absolutely pleasing and wonderful The staff is well versed on the surrounding areas I have plans to return here next year
Overpriced. Small lots. WiFi Service is sketchy. Cable goes out continuously. Negative atmosphere. More of a retirement community than a campground. Don't bring your kids or dogs here unless you want to keep them lin time out all weekend.
Questionable business practices. Overpriced. No amenities. Lake is a cesspool. Poor treatment of staff. Disappointing stay.
This is our second stay at Camp Lakewood (the last time was 6 years ago), and it is still just as nice as I remembered from the first stay. Long, wooded sites - easy pull through on a lot of them. A park-like setting with a beautiful little lake. Very friendly staff. Firewood delivered to your site. The restrooms are immaculate! And a very nice laundry room as well. And there's even a little bar on site. We stayed at Camp Lakewood for 5 days in a 40ft motor home.
Shaded sites on lake.......very helpful staff.........small lounge...........clean and quiet........lake to fish on........would stay again
We pulled in after hours. I was a bit frustrated when no one answered the phone but was happy to see they have `after hours registration' forms. We got into our site with no issues. Everyone was pleasant in the morning, had a great night sleep and back on the road. Will definitely be back on our way home!
After calling and asking questions I was told there were showers. Yeah if you like to shower in 40 degree temperature. Also states cable, nope not this time of year. Can't even get a over the air channel. They still charge all the same rates as summer time. Stinks. Last time I'm coming here. They use to have a giant heater in the bathroom, not anymore.
This is a gem. Park is well laid out, gravel sites, the hookups are all easily accessible and well maintained. There appeared to be 2 sewer hook ups per site making for shorter hoses. Water pressure was excellent, WIFI was useable but we prefer our onboard system. The rate was $36 per night. After hour information was easily understood and our site selection was easily done.
We stayed for one night passing through, While easy access off the interstate a very narrow road to access the park, two RV's in opposite direction would provide for some interesting manuvering. Also, DO NOT COME IN ON RICKLEMAN AVE, there is an old 10 Ton Bridge we crossed, not good. Better bet would be to take Avenue of Mid America and then turn on N. RANEY ST, take that to Rinkleman, then turn left. Being November, Park had just some brave full timers going to weather the winter and a couple... Read More

RANEY ST, take that to Rinkleman, then turn left. Being November, Park had just some brave full timers going to weather the winter and a couple others of us just passing thru. Laundry, showers and bathrooms were immaculate, site was very level, did not even put jacks down to put the slides out. It is very wooded, most pull thru sites were easy access, we took site 10 because we were able to get some sun, had to go thru a vacant site to get our 40 footer with car in it, but was nice as facilities were next door. We would definitely stay at this park again

Very cramped sites. No satellite.
This was a great place! Quiet and beautiful setting. Was very clean in the bathhouse. The grounds were well kept. Going back.
The Staff was very efficient and cheerful. The lounge was welcoming - and the store was good for a campground. The sites were nicely spaced, plenty of trees, long and level pull through type. The area is clean, attractive, comfortable, and quiet. (They even loaned us a courtesy vehicle so we could get to church)Didn't use the restroom, so I cannot comment on that.
New owners. Dropped WiFi and Cable TV. Heavy trees so no SAT. Conn. OK fir overnight
New rv owners meandering back to Texas after picking up trailer. Loved the campground on the lake?? Easy access, drive through gravel pad. Easy to hookup, easy access to dump station. Picnic table and small fire ring were plusses. Small bar with pizza, nachos, and pretzels. Good drinks and sweet bartender. Small gazebo with a couple of grills. All and all a nice shady, quiet park that we would use again. Reservations were easy to make and staff and owners were friendly and helpful.
Do not trust the reservation "process" at this campground. I had made reservations a couple months in advance, for one night each on a trip out and back. Arrived late the first night and had no site held for us. Called the day before our planned stay on the way back and was assured we had a site reserved for us that night, but arrived to find they had AGAIN given away our site. Had stayed here several years ago, with a reservation and no issues, so I don't know what has happened since, but very... Read More

Fortunately we were just passing through. If wifi was available we were not given the password and couldn't find it. On the check-in flyer, right under the campground map it says they have cable tv. Printed in the upper right hand corner is a notice saying there is trouble with the cable please use your antenna. If you've had "trouble" that long maybe you should stop saying you offer the service. I would also question the earlier review that touted their "cable hookups that were very good". Well... Read More

Well I guess the hookup WAS pretty good...you just don't get cable from it.

Very nice, quiet camp ground. Arrived after hours and found available space information in the door. Clean sites, well maintained park, nice hostess. Would come back here again. VERY NICE!
This is a great park run by friendly folks. The hook up were clean and easy. The sites were covered with large tall trees. Not great for sat TV (they had cable hook ups that were very good) but great for shade. Sites were packed gravel and fairly level. Sites are a little narrow but there was room for the tow car behind the coach
This is one of our favorite sites to stop at. We have a 37' fifth wheel and have found several sites there that we like. Check out site #2 if you want an incredible lake/wildlife view. Check out site 19 if you like to be back in the trees a bit. Check out site 41 if you want a little of both. While there is a fair amount of pull through spots, my only suggestion would be to upgrade many of the 30Amp only sites to 50Amp. Our fifth wheel will function on both, but 50 makes things a bit easier.... Read More

There is a small playground for the kids in the middle of the campground. While not scientific by any stretch, I think this campground is mostly an overnight place for people pulling off the Interstate. That's a shame, because the camp hosts are really good people.
They have recently added a lounge - which I really enjoyed the last time I was there.
Restrooms are probably the cleanest I have ever seen! Generally, this campground is very well maintained, clean and easy in easy out!
