I picked this State Park because it was on our route, the pictures and description of the Park were promising and the remoteness and lack of light pollution made it a good spot for star gazing. The Good... - Nice little Park! Well groomed and taken care of. - Definitely remote and the stars in the night sky were spectacular. - Nice little beach swimming area and a park under trees and fishing. Scenery, trails and views were great! The Not so Good... - The remoteness also means poor cell phone... Read More

The Good...
- Nice little Park! Well groomed and taken care of.
- Definitely remote and the stars in the night sky were spectacular.
- Nice little beach swimming area and a park under trees and fishing. Scenery, trails and views were great!
The Not so Good...
- The remoteness also means poor cell phone reception. I mean you're on vacation and maybe trying to get 'away', but much of the time there was no signal at all. At least not with ATT.
- It was the last week of July so it was HOT, 104F at 6pm HOT. We opted to use the Park showers and there isn't near enough ventilation in the building.
- We went hiking and beware of the deer flies. They were so bad we turned back. Only bad on the trails, stay on the road and no flies.
- And lastly I got some attitude from a Ranger. The Texas State Park website showed the Park hours till 5pm. We got there at 4:45pm and it was closed. Sign on the door said 4:30pm No problem because they had directions about pick a spot and register in the morning. Next morning I registered and mentioned that 'the website says one thing and the door has another'. The reply was "They don't pay us to stay until 5pm!" Well all righty then. In truth, the reply was from only 1 of the 4 Rangers that were in the office. The others were very nice.
Final note: I'd stay there again. The good far outweighs any bad.
