We picked this site for a shakedown run of our new travel trailer. Natural Chimneys is a beautifully maintained campground. The restrooms were clean, and the grounds were impeccable. Our site, D-06, backed up onto the woods next to the North River, and we were very pleased to find out that our site was almost perfectly level side to side. The sites are spacious, and absolutely NOT crowded together. On the older sites, the water taps are sited in between sites and may be a fair distance away. Our... Read More

The sites are spacious, and absolutely NOT crowded together. On the older sites, the water taps are sited in between sites and may be a fair distance away. Our site required a 50' hose to reach the water tap, so keep in mind you may want to make sure you have a longer hose on hand. Although the sites are spacious, there's very little shrubbery in the camping areas. If you like private sites with shrubbery screening you from view from neighbors, keep in mind you may need to do a little creative placement of your tow vehicle and sun shades
We constantly commented to each other on how quiet and peaceful the campground was. No rowdies, no loud music, kids and dogs playing in abundance, but all were well behaved. On an ordinary weekend like the one we camped on, this is the place to be if you want to chill, relax, and de-stress. It certainly worked for us.
Although the park has a pool (N.B. pool access is NOT included in the camping fee), my girlfriend was hoping that we'd find some spots easily accessible for swimming/wading in the North River, but the river itself literally goes underground in the summer, There are swimming holes a short distance away, but even the nearest is a fair hike on foot.
Speaking of hikes, There's about two miles of walking trails, one of which will take you to the top of the chimneys, and another that leads you on a shady walk by the North River.
Things to be aware of:
1. You're in a very rural area. There's a little country store just outside the park that carries the basics, but the nearest shopping center is in Bridgewater, about a 20 minute drive away.
2. The Redwing Roots Music Festival is hosted here in July. It sells out very quickly, and you may not be able to book a site for that weekend less than 6 months ahead of time.
3. Natural Chimneys hosts the longest running sporting event in the US. Jousting events are held on the third weekend of June, and the third weekend of August. These weekends may also be booked up far in advance.

A beautiful campground, large open sites, very peaceful and quiet. Nice hiking trails, pet friendly. Very reasonable rates. Only a few sites have sewer hook-ups, no camp store or scheduled activities. This campground has so much potential. Music on weekends, activities for kids and adults, cookouts or BBQ, corn hole, and horseshoe competitions. We camp there several times a year with other friends and family campers, great place for a large group.
