This was our first time at Newport News Park Campground. It is a rustic, tree-filled park with level, asphalt sites. The RV sites only have water and electricity hookups, but the dump site is centrally located and not far away from the RV and campsites. The restrooms and showers were amazingly clean and the park rangers patrolled regularly. There is a very clean, bright, and well maintained laundry room at the park check-in building. We were very pleasantly surprised by the park overall and will... Read More

Bathrooms/showers dated maybe but clean and warm, soap was in dispensers but no means of drying hands except shaking. Lots of trees, hiking paths not all well marked but ok. Remnants of civil war breastworks still visible in areas. Some sites not level, but generally not a problem. Road noise in the first two loops from an interstate may be a problem for you if you like to stay up late with a fire, we were too tired after seeing the nearby sights like Yorktown and Jamestown to stay up. We will go... Read More

This is an older Campground, The restrooms are more than adequate, but do show some age. We have small children and usually stay near the playground, but the majority of campsites are quite Large and far more spacious than any KOA or other campgrounds we have been too. I highly recommend Newport News Camp, and frequent it many times annually.
Very few somewhat level sites but all were blacktop. Even with blocks we could not get the RV even close to level. moved to another spot after walking the campground and it was better. Both sites were filthy. Walking trails were grown up and not maintained. Many sites had lots of road noise as well. It could become a great place if the city showed a little more attention to it.
A beautiful campground with heavily wooded lots, well located with great trails to walk or bike. BUT, the bathrooms were filthy. We encountered dirty floors with cobweb condos everywhere and lots of dirt in corners, which is somewhat tolerable. There was heavy black mold in the showers and the smell of mildew permeated the air. But wait, there's more! The grossest thing of all was someone wiped feces on the wall and it appeared to be on there for quite a long time. We did complain formally... Read More

The grossest thing of all was someone wiped feces on the wall and it appeared to be on there for quite a long time. We did complain formally and hopefully the bathrooms will be properly cleaned. The Rangers did respond professionally and with concern and assured us it would be taken care of in the coming week. Finally, they really need a pool as we have been her for 3 days in scorching 98 degree heat. All in all I'd come again in cooler weather with hopes that our complaints about the bathrooms are properly addressed.
