Nice park with big overnight sites and room to stretch out. Close enough to the fun of Destin but away from the crowds and traffic. We enjoyed our visit and will definitely come back again next year to this spot.
The first time we stayed at Calypso we were placed in a different part of the park from our party. A couple of campers complained about partying during quiet hours and were moved but our group roughed it out. The newer park doesn't have concrete pads like the older side but they do have gravel. The site was a back in site and wasn't easily maneuvered into due to huge decorative boulders in the way. The long term campers use clear PVC and leave their valves open so we got to watch and smell their... Read More
The first time we stayed at Calypso we were placed in a different part of the park from our party. A couple of campers complained about partying during quiet hours and were moved but our group roughed it out. The newer park doesn't have concrete pads like the older side but they do have gravel. The site was a back in site and wasn't easily maneuvered into due to huge decorative boulders in the way. The long term campers use clear PVC and leave their valves open so we got to watch and smell their excrements go to the sewer right from our picnic table and outdoor "patio" the entire stay. That's not really the campground's fault so we dismissed it. To add to the aggravation they require proof of insurance on your camper so maybe it's just us but we don't go around with our insurance in our camper. So good luck with your insurance card scavenger hunt while you're no where near home or your insurance office. They could just as easily required guests to sign a paper not holding the campground liable rather than asking for proof of insurance as it is not required by any other camps we have stayed at. To add to the menace, the gossip is real around this place. We learned all about the manager accidentally getting one of the tenants fired, and how the next door neighbor who's poop I saw up close and personal as it hung out in the clear elbow of their permanent black water drain told the office all about my newborn baby. We stay in campground for privacy and this place is anything but private.
The second time we attempted to stay at Calypso we were split up from our party again (even though I carefully selected our spots). Manager stated that they just did it to make room for others and never notified us. Then also admitted they had done it to another group that same weekend. I brought up the fact I have a baby and didn't want to stay in the old campground with the long term camping party crowd. They claimed they had no idea even though they had campers requesting new spots our previous trip. In other words don't plan a multi-camper family trip here. Your selections aren't important to them. We finally got our money back after playing phone tag throughout the day to get this resolved.
No swimming pool. Difficult turns and decorative obstacles in the way when parking. Small sites.
